 Can you predict the future? Absolutely. 

You predict the future when you create it. It all starts with your vision.

Vision is a really big word, isn't it? What do you think of when I say VISION? I tend to think about the vision I have for my business, and the vision my clients have for their businesses. 

As I drill down a bit, I look at the components of a vision. What do you need to think about in order to create your vision? 

First thing is the work you do. What do you do and why? Does it feel aligned with who you are? 

Next, I think about impact.

What is the impact that you want to have? What do you want to be known for? 

Which leads us to people. Who are your clients? Why are they the right people for you to serve? Who’s on your team? Who are you supported by? 

Finally: how does that help you have a fulfilling and satisfying life? 

I’ll be honest: when I launched my first business in 2003, I didn't have a great vision for what I was creating. I was leaving a corporate job that was no longer satisfying or fulfilling; it was just pure stress. 

Rather than having a vision for my new business, I actually had an escape plan. I’m lucky I made it as far as I did in those early days! I've since learned it is a lot easier if you know what you're working towards as opposed to what you're trying to get away from. That's why having a strong vision is so important. 

The nice thing about a vision is as your business grows and evolves, your vision can grow and evolve too. I have a different business than what I started 18 years ago and I am a very different business owner in many ways. As I evolved, I shifted my vision to allow my business to evolve too. 

If you want to be successful and feel fulfilled & satisfied, you have to be deeply connected to the components of your vision. What's the work that you do? What’s the impact that you want to have? Who do you work with? And how does all of that support your life so that you feel fulfilled and satisfied?

How strongly connected are you to your vision, and how are you making it come to life? Does it feel good? As we wind down this year, these are excellent questions to ask yourself.
