Do it scared

“Fear is only as deep as the mind allows.” – Japanese proverb

I had a conversation with a friend recently and the talk turned to doing things that scare us a little and pull us out of our comfort zones. These are different for everyone – mine include anything that lift me above the ground. I have a leg-shaking fear of heights and I work hard at keeping my feet planted on terra firma.

A few years ago, I challenged myself to a high-ropes course to see if I could alleviate some of my fear. While I still get nervous when I’m up high, thinking of how I climbed ladders to a platform almost four stories high that day gives me courage when I need it.

I see people stretch themselves out of their comfort zones all the time. And really, it’s the only way to see big success. Do the same things, get the same results. Do different things, get different results.

What’s your comfort zone? More importantly, how will you break out of it?

Here’s another quote I love: Be comfortable being uncomfortable. It’s the only way you’ll stretch and grow.
