Find your symbol to succeed

Jul 16, 2021

We’ve talked recently about what limiting beliefs/broken soundtracks are and how to create positive messages to replace them

But what if you need a little extra firepower to help you make this shift? In his book Soundtracks, Jon Acuff suggests finding a symbol.

A symbol gives you a visual cue that helps reinforce your new positive message. It wants to be simple, personal and visible. Examples Acuff gives include: a rock from the top of a mountain you climbed, bibs from races you’ve run, a compass to remind you of your true north.

One of the symbols that works for me is a small sculpture my husband gave me.

Years ago, when I was running my nutrition practice, I hit a very low point. I had no new clients on the horizon and I was doubting myself more than I ever had in my life. Things were so bad, I was seriously considering going back to corporate. *shudder*

My husband showed up with this item that spells out the word BELIEVE. This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear. It motivated me to hang in there and pull myself out of my slump. I keep it on my filing cabinet and see it several times a day. Still has its power!

What’s a symbol you can use to keep you moving forward? I’d love to hear what works for you!
