I played it WAY too safe
Dec 16, 2022
Every December I take myself and my clients through exercises to wrap up the current year before we start the new one. I love this for so many reasons, especially that it’s a neat way to clear the decks before we dive into a brand-spankin’ new year.
Among other things, we pull out the significant events, celebrate the wins and take a clear look at the not-wins so we can learn from all of it. My own learning really surprised me this year.
I realized I didn’t actually have many failures. Like hardly any. And the choices/events/offers I do consider to be flops aren’t that significant.
What do you think that says about how I showed up this year?
Your first thought might be that I really knocked it out of the park in 2022. (And I love you for that!)
I’m actually thinking the opposite: I didn’t take many risks that could have led to failure. I played it safe. I tackled things I was almost completely certain I could succeed at. Which is nice, but doesn’t actually lead to big juicy growth. Perhaps that was fine for this year (and I think it was), but next year is a whole different banana.
If I didn’t work through these exercises, I would’ve thought it was an awesome year. Because it was! AND I can see how I could've upped the ante to have an even awesomer year. That’s my plan for 2023.
