The only way out . . .

Aug 17, 2016

It’s been an incredible amount of hard work to train for our Kilimanjaro trip. And hard work demands a mantra.

Sometimes I find myself slogging through a strength workout, wondering if I’ve completely lost count of my sets (Really? Two done sets done? Only two?) Or I’m nearly losing it on the hiking trail. Yesterday’s temperature was well over 90º and the humidity was about a billion percent. For some reason, that didn’t stop us from getting a hike in to bank some more elevation gain. It was so challenging for me to climb up the rocky terrain that I questioned whether I should even try hiking Kilimanjaro. Thankfully, I had my mantra:

The only way out is through.

This little phrase has come in handy more times than I can count. It reminds me that even when times are tough, there’s an end in sight. The faster I make my way straight to the end, the sooner I’ll get there. Detours, fretting, complaining – all those things can distract me from moving forward. My mantra reminds me to suck it up and keep forging ahead.

How do you power yourself through when the going gets tough? I’d love some new ideas!
