A Texan friend once told me If you’ve done it, it ain’t braggin’.
I shared this with a client recently. She had a gremlin voice telling her to not speak up so loudly, to maybe stay a little small when she presents on the topics she’s an expert in so she doesn’t appear over-confident. I shared the Texan version, then my own:
If you know it, it’s not showing off. It’s sharing.
Women often grow up with messaging that tells them to keep it down, sweetheart. As a result, we don’t always feel comfortable standing in the value of who we are and what we know. Sharing expertise can feel braggy and, let’s face it, isn’t always well-received.
We must share it anyway. Otherwise it’s like having a huge platter of warm chocolate chip cookies that we parade in front of everyone else without letting them have a single bite. What kind of monster does that? 😁
