How to hear yourself

Jun 12, 2026

Oh what a busy, noisy world we live in, right? At least some of the time (maybe a lot of the time) you’re bombarded with notifications and messages and people asking you for something. All the technology that can make life easier can also make it harder to simply be. To hear yourself - YOU - the most important part of your life.

If you find yourself shifting into Do Not Disturb mode frequently, sitting down at your desk and saying “Okay, time to figure this out!” I’ve got a better way.

Go for a walk.

That’s it, simply go for a walk. Ideally in nature and without a ton of apps open. I promise you’ll feel / find what you’re seeking.

Walking creates the conditions where clarity, creativity, and connection naturally merge. Our bodies know things our brains haven't figured out yet. It helps us make sense of things faster & easier.

Because walking helps us access wisdom that thinking alone can't reach.

I happen to be a bit of an expert in this. Not because I have any special degree or training, but because I’ve lived this.

Several years ago, I was grappling with some big questions. Think “Where do I want to live? What do I want to do?” kinds of questions.

You know what? I got all of my answers while walking.

Perhaps the most impressively magical experience was when I was out for a walk while visiting Boulder. As I looked around at the mountains, I thought to myself: I’m going to move here one day.

The knowing I felt when I had that thought was so powerful, I almost fell over.

My body recognized pure truth in that moment. I didn’t know how or when I’d move to Boulder, but I knew I would.

Five months later, I owned a house in Boulder. ✨

Everything that had to happen so that Fred & I could move from the East Coast lined up, as if we had placed an order. My walk on that morning was the catalyst for the whole thing. Not sitting at my desk and thinking. Not making endless lists, debating pros and cons. Simply walking.

Here’s my invitation to you: go for a walk today. It doesn't have to be long or strenuous or speedy. In fact, a more intentional pace is a pretty great way to get to the answers you’re looking for. Simple, easeful, powerful.
