I don’t know where I’m going

Aug 06, 2026

A couple of things collided this past week and got me thinking about how I (and maybe you) move forward in life

Talking to a friend, I told him about a guided reading I’d done years ago that truly changed how I live my life.

In this reading, I asked the question: how do I live my life purpose? The answer came with no hesitation: Love.

When I asked what that meant, the response was Love everyone as much as you can. Then love them even more. Live your life this way.

Okaaaay . . .

So I’m trying to do that. I’m often reminded that I’ve actually been doing that more than I think.

Love is a theme in my life. When I left my corporate job to start my own business, it was to be able to love my day, which I definitely did not as someone else’s employee. That was my total business plan, much to the dismay of the small business consultants who were helping me get started.

This is not a business plan, they told me.

It’s my business plan, I replied.

Soon afterward, these meetings came to an end and I was on my own as I launched myself and my new business out into the world. This was 23 years ago, so I think that past version of me was on to something. 💜

This memory came up as I thought about a book I recently read, called The Lion Tracker’s Guide to Life. There’s one line in there that brings it home for me. One of the lion trackers says “I don’t know where I’m going. But I know exactly how to get there.”

He meant he taps into his own inner compass to move forward. And I’m tapping into mine: love.

This shows up all throughout my life and my career. Almost everything I do/have done is because I love it:

💜 Starting my first business

💜 Redefining that business to keep only the parts I loved

💜 Leading groups on the Camino de Santiago

💜 Moving to Colorado and hosting the Camino de Boulder Retreat

💜 Eating ridiculous amounts of chocolate (just making sure you’re still with me 😉)

Love is a very good compass point to operate from. And while I can’t say I always know where I’m going, I always know exactly how to get there.
