Less planning, more discovery

Oct 22, 2026

I've been home from the Camino for a few weeks now, and I'm noticing something interesting:

I'm not feeling particularly inspired to make big new plans.

This is pretty unusual for me. All my life, I’ve been a planner, a thinker, a doer. I get stuff done.

I thrive on having a goal to work toward, whether it’s a new adventure, a business idea, or some other new possibility. I love making things happen.

Now I’m feeling a little shift in me.

It’s probably tied to the question Fred & I played with while we walked the Camino together: How do we want the next 10 years to be?

The words that keep coming up aren't accomplishment, growth, or success.

Instead, I’m hearing

✨spaciousness

✨fun

✨curiosity

✨adventure

✨freedom

Interestingly enough, all of those can lead to the outcomes of accomplishment, growth, and success.

And instead of striving directly for these outcomes, I can take a different approach. Walk a different path, if you will.

What if the next chapter of life isn't something we need to create, but something we get to discover?

What if my daily rhythms could mimic what we experience on the Camino: simplicity, space, quiet, connection.

I’m willing to bet that I will discover new things that make this stage of my life even richer.

The fall season is one of discovery.

It’s a time to harvest what’s grown from the seeds you planted in the spring. You can’t always know what will actually grow as you plant those seeds. You can only nestle them into the dirt, nurture them and wonder if the resulting plants will look like the ones on the seed packets.

I’m pretty sure I’m in the fall season of my overall life.

Maybe, just like the farmer who’s ready to harvest the bounty of what she planted, I get to discover what’s grown as a result. And my next creations can grow from that. No planning, no striving. Simply gathering what’s already around me, nourishing it with my curiosity.

I wonder what’s waiting for you to discover?
