If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area.

Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in.

Go a little bit out of your depth.

And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.

– David Bowie

These words are speaking to me loudly & clearly, because I’m definitely out of my comfort zone. I’m reassured that David Bowie would think I’m on the brink of something exciting, because, frankly, I’m taking a leap of faith by getting trained and certified to be a Co-Active Coach. Co-Active coaching is very different than my current style, which is acting more as a consultant to help clients solve problems. Co-Active coaching focuses on the person, asserting that people are naturally creative, resourceful and whole; and that all of the answers we need are right within us. We just have to be willing to find them.

And I have to be willing to have a beginner’s mind as I travel through this coursework. I’m used to knowing what I’m doing and feeling very confident. Some of this new material is teaching me that I don’t always know as much as I think I do. It’s humbling. And a little scary. And very exciting.

What will you do to venture out a little further into the water today?
